The Barrier Reef Chromis (Chromis nitida) as their name suggests, is widespread throughout the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. They have a white body, with a diagonal black line, and a yellow dorsal section. They feed on small planktonic crustaceans, such as mysis or krill, and do well in heavily rocked aquariums. They may be kept singly, in pairs or in a school, and reach a maximum size of 3 inches. This being said, they should not be housed in an aquarium with larger, predatory fish. They are suitable for reef aquariums, though they should not be kept with small, prized invertebrates, such as Venus Shrimp or Bumblebee Shrimp, as they may try to eat them. They should be housed in an aquarium with at least 20 gallons.
