The White-Spotted Filefish (Cantherhines macroceros) is also known as the American White-Spotted or Leatherjacket Filefish. They can be found among mid-level reefs in the Atlantic Ocean, including the coast of Florida and the Caribbean. They typically exist as pairs, hiding among gorgonians and other soft corals. Their bodies are generally black and orange-brown with white spots, though they can slightly change colors to aid in hiding from predators. Their diet consists of sea sponges, algae, soft corals and invertebrates. Reaching a max size of 18 inches, they should be kept in a tank with plenty of space to swim and hide, as well as offered a varied diet.
