The Fan Bellied Filefish, Monocanthus chinensis, is also known as the Fan Bellied Leatherjacket, Centreboard Leatherjacket, Fantail Filefish, and Fantail Leatherjacket. They have brown/black bodies scattered with dots and even blue speckles. They are often found as solitary individuals in shallow lagoons feeding on small inverts, algae and seagrasses. Their body types closely resemble that of a triggerfish. The Fan Bellied Filefish has the unique chameleonic ability  to change is color to its surroundings in an attempt to deter predators. In the home aquarium, the Fan Bellied Filefish can grow up to 40 centimeters, are omnivorous, and should be kept in a tank no less than 100 gallons.
