The Chrysurus Angelfish, Pomacanthus chrysurus, sometimes known as the Goldtail Angelfish and the Ear Spot Angelfish, is a rare angelfish variant found off the coast of Madagascar in the western Indian Ocean. The Chrysurus Angel features a deep brown/black body with vertical white striping and a yellow/brown forehead splotch. It has a vibrantly bright yellow tail and blue bands across its head, belly, and anal fin.
The Chrysurus Angel is actually quite rare in the aquarium trade as it is only native to a specific area of the Indian Ocean.
The Chrysurus Angelfish is best cared for:
- in a tank of at least 150 gallons with plenty of free swimming space and live rocks for it to hide in
- away from sessile inverts and fleshy corals as it will sometimes nip if hungry
- when fed a varied died of spirulina, algae, and quality flake and frozen foods.
The Chrysurus exhibits no sexual dimorphism and can sometimes be observed making an audible "clicking" sound when distressed or spooked. Be cautious when handling this fish as it can be a bit more sensitive than other angelfish species. When kept under the right conditions, the Chrysurus is hardy and easy to care for and makes a spectacualr addition to any tank.
