Javanese (Blue Velvet) Damsel Care Facts
There are no key facts available for this product.
The Javanese Damsel is popularly known as the Black Velvet Damsel or the Blue Velvet Damsel. It features striking coloration when young, and has flashy neon colored electric-blue horizontal stripes dashed across its face and upper body. However, as the Javanese Damsel grows, the stripes fade away and becomes grayish blue color overall. It is considered an easy fish for a beginner, and needs its own territory unless kept in a larger tank. The Javanese Damsel is an omnivore and can be fed on all kinds of live, frozen, and flake foods and algae, and also is best to feed small amounts several times a day. As it grows, the Javanese Damsel becomes more aggressive and territorial which becomes little difficult to introduce new similar damselfishes. Although, there is no distinct feature between male and female, the Javanese Damsel has been bred in captivity, and should be kept in a tank not less than 30 Gallons. It is hardy and can tolerate adverse water conditions in a new aquarium, which makes it a very good addition to any reef tank. In order to keep the Javanese Damsel at peace, it is necessary to provide them their own rock work and hiding places. Due to its size, it can become food for many fishes such as Eels, Groupers, Lionfish and Scorpionfish. Seahorses and Pipefish, Sharks and Rays, which should not be housed with the Javanese Damsel.

A very beautiful fish! These colors are amazing and I am very happy I got this fish. Was worried that my other damsels would mess with his since I added him last to the tank but just the opposite, they all get along. I recommend getting one if you don't already have one.
