The Blue Spiny Lobster, Panulirus versicolor, also known as the Painted Spiny Lobster or Painted Crayfish, features distinctive blue stripes across its legs and a green/blue carapace. Unlike other lobster species, the Blue Spiny Lobster lacks large claws and is more peaceful. It is generally reef safe but may bother sessile inverts and corals. It should be housed in a well-established reef tank with plenty of live rock hiding places and a sandy substrate.
The Blue Spiny Lobster has been seen 'dancing' in the aquarium by whipping its long white antennae back and forth and can actually make an audible sound. As they are easy to care for, they make a great beginner lobster species.
