The Two-Banded Grouper, Diploprion bifasciatus, is otherwise known as the Double Banded Soapfish, Doublebar Soapfish, Two Band Sea Perch, Yellow Soapfish, Yellow Emperor, and Yellow Striped Grouper. The Two-Banded Grouper has a distinct yellow body with two thick black vertical stripes. This fish is quite beautiful and are mostly active during the night as they are nocturnal hunters. The Two-Banded Grouper is carnivorous and should not be kept with small fish or invertebrates as they will quickly become prey. When stressed, the Two-Banded Grouper can emit a soapy toxin to deter potential predators. Overall, though probably not the first choice of reef fish, the Two-Banded Grouper can be a unique reef dweller compatible in a large tank with other large fish.
