The Pygmy Leatherjacket (Brachaluteres jacksonianus) is a very rare species of Filefish found off the coast of Australia, They typically inhabit deep-water reefs, though they occasionally search shallow seabeds of grass for small invertebrates. They have a unique body shape that almost looks squished that is a tan to green color. They have a series of stripes and spots along their body, with males having flashing blue spots on their tail and dorsal fins to attract females. They can also extend their body cavity to ward off predators. They reach a maximum size of 3.5 inches and should be kept in a tank of at least 30 gallons. Their diet should consist of small invertebrates, such as copepods, mysis and krill, and they should be monitored in a reef tank, as they may nip at soft polyps.
