The Annularis Angelfish, Pomacanthus annularis, also known as the Blue Ring Angelfish and the Blue King Angel, features brilliant sapphire stripes over a golden body with a ghostly white tail. It is adorned with irregular radiant blue rays across its body. As far as Angelfish go, the Annularis is one of the more hardy and easy to care for species suitable for the home aquarium. This is an excellent Angelfish species for beginner and expert aquarists alike.
Although it may be hardy, it does not make an excellent reef fish. Sometimes, especially if underfed, the Annularis Angel can nip at fleshy clam mantles, soft corals, or other sessile invertebrates. However, they will eat plenty of pesky algae making them a beneficial member of the clean up crew. Adults will eat a varied omnivorous diet of spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and frozen mysis or brine shrimp three times per day. Like other Angelfish species, it is best to keep the Annularis singly and away from similar looking Angelfish species.
