The Tahiti Butterflyfish (Chaetodon trichrous), also known as the Tahitian Butterflyfish, can be found among the reefs of Tahiti, in French Polynesia. They have a light brown/white head with a dark brown, crosshatched mid-section and posterior, yellow caudal fin, and a dark stripe covering their eye. They reach a maximum size of 5 inches and should be kept in an aquarium with at least 70 gallons. They are omnivores, eating a variety of crustaceans and invertebrates, algae, and occasionally coral polyps, so they are not recommended for reef tanks. They should be kept with fish of similar size and temperament.
