The Squamosa Clam, Tridacna squamosa, is often brown with some blue and green colored spots and wavy lines. It features a symmetrical shell that grows to a maximum size of 12" and can close very tightly when necessary. It obtains nutrients from the photosynthetic ability of algae living within its shell. 

The Squamosa Clam is best kept on the bottom of the tank nestled into sandy substrate. They do not require as much light as other clam species (T. maxima and T. crocea) making it a wonderfully beginner clam species. These species are captive bred.
