Though similar looking to plants, the Tree Sponge is considered one of
the most primitive animals in the sea. This sponge can come in a vibrant
red, yellow, or orange color and belongs to the group called as
Porifera. The Tree Sponge has tree like branches that grows up to 8
inches. It is very safe to keep in any home tank as it doesn't harm any
corals unlike other sponges. It should be kept in such a place where it
can receive a moderate to strong amount of water flow with shaded light.
Out of many other inhabitants, sea horses loves to wrap their tails
around the branches of these sponges as they do not sting like corals. The Tree Sponge requires
feedings of dissolved organic matter that includes marine snow and
phytoplankton for good continued health. It is easy to keep and can do
relatively well in a home aquarium with the proper care. It has to be kept in mind that the
Tree Sponge should never be exposed to air as the air can block the
channel path and impedes the nutrition process causing it to die
eventually.
