The Mombasa Lionfish (Pterois mombasae) can be found among the Indian Ocean and coast of east Africa. They have a vibrant red body with white and dark red stripes. They have shorter pectoral fins than most other species of lionfish, as well as very large eyes in relation to their body. They do well in dimly lit systems with fish of similar size and temperament. Reaching a maximum size of 6 inches, they should be housed in tank with at least 50 gallons. Given their predatory nature, they should not be housed with smaller fish or crustaceans; due to this, they are not considered reef safe, though they do not pose a threat to corals. They may require a diet of live food, such as ghost/glass shrimp or live brine shrimp, though they can be trained to eat frozen food in time.
I love this Mombasa Lionfish! Pictures don’t compare to the live fish. The new addition improves my saltwater water aquarium. Everyone loves it.
