The Highfin Moray Eel (Gymnothorax pseudothyrsoideus) also known as the False Spot Moray or the Mottled Moray. They live in the Indo Pacific region and are rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Their body is a light tan/grey color that is covered by olive to dark brown speckles. They frequent rocky outcroppings or beds of seagrass where they hunt primarily for crustaceans, as well as occasional fish. They reach a maximum size of 3 feet and should be housed in a minimum tank size of 185 gallons with plenty of live rock to hide among. While they do not pose a direct threat to corals, they are typically housed in large FOWLR aquariums as they can eat small fish and crustaceans. Feed them a duet of live and frozen thawed marine animals such as shrimp, clams, squid, and small fish such as silver-sides.
