The Black-Ear Moray Eel (Muraena melanotis) can be found off the coast of Brazil and other countries surrounding the Central Atlantic Ocean. Their black body is covered by white flakes that fade into a yellow underbelly. Their common name is derived from a noticeable black spot located behind their gills. They frequent rocky outcroppings or beds of seagrass where they hunt primarily for crustaceans, as well as occasional fish. They reach a maximum size of 3 feet and should be housed with plenty of live rock to hide among. While they do not pose a direct threat to corals, they are typically housed in large FOWLR aquariums.
