Care Facts

The Purple Lobster, Enomopletapus sp., is a small lobster species that features a unique pink/purple color with a bumpy exoskeleton. As a nocturnal species, the Purple Lobster will come out at night and search for food among the live rock and sand - it must be kept in a tank with plenty of live rock hiding places. The Purple Lobster can be rather aggressive and should never be kept with another lobster. As it searches the sand for food, it actually helps aerate it making the Purple Lobster a beneficial tank member. However, it can, and will, feed on small fishes so be careful when you choose tank mates - it wont harm snails.
The Purple Lobster will occasionally shed its old shell in a process called molting and will benefit from trace supplements of iodine. So long as the Purple Lobster is given plenty of places to hide with no territorial competitors, and is well fed, it will be reef safe.
