The Pillow Cushion Starfish, Culcita sp., also known as the Fat Seastar, is a large pentagonal burgundy-colored star with a soft body. It is one of the most uniquely colored and shaped stars out there. Though mostly peaceful, it can potentially trample corals under its weight so keep this in mind. The Pillow Star should be fed chopped invertebrates at least one a week. Like other starfish, the Pillow Cushion Star is very sensitive to water quality and should never be exposed to open air while handling.
It will feed primarily on algae, microfauna, and occasionally small inverts (so not necessarily reef safe) and should be housed with plenty of live rock.
I love this Pillow Cushion Starfish! Pictures don’t compare to the live fish. The new addition improves my saltwater water aquarium. Everyone loves it.
