The Hector's Goby is commonly referred as Hector's Hover Goby, and features a bluish-black body with bright yellow horizontal stripes and an eyespot on the dorsal fin. It needs a tank not less than 10 gallon along with many hiding places and a thick sand bed. The Hector's Goby is non-aggressive towards other fishes and will not bother invertebrates in the tank. It is easy to feed and its diet includes most of the marine foods. The Hector's Goby consumes large amounts of algae, worms, and prepared foods such as vitamin enriched mysis shrimp and brine shrimp that helps in maintaining the color of the fish. It thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4. The Hector's Goby picks food out of the sand, and it is believed that it feeds heavily on filamentous algae when it is present. The aquarium should contain many hiding places and caves in the tank, so that the Hector's Goby can hide and slumber when needed. It is non-aggressive fish and is completely safe with both corals and other invertebrates that is why the Hector's Goby makes a good reef safe species and a good choice for a beginner aquarist as well. We advise you to feed it with a mixed diet of algae and prepared marine food such as frozen mysis.
2/10/15. Fascinating fish. It was shy at first and took a few days to start exploring. Now it is swimming in all partes of the tank.
