The Dusky Tilefish (Hoplolatilus cuniculus) is found among the Indo-Pacific Ocean and off the coast of Eastern Asia. They frequent lagoons or rocky outcroppings, where they hunt for small invertebrates. Their body is a pale beige to yellow coloration with translucent blue fins. They feed on a variety of benthic creatures, such as copepods, amphipods and occasional fish eggs. They require plenty of live rock to hide among, where they can retreat when threatened. They reach a maximum length of 6 inches and should be kept with fish of similar size and temperament. Due to their slender body, they should not be housed with larger predatory fish, such as lionfish or groupers. As is true for most gobies, H. cuniculus can jump through small openings, so a tight lid with minimal holes is recommended.
