The Black Spot Tang, Acanthurus bariene, has a number of common names including the Doctorfish, Lancetfish, Thorntail Fish, Bariene Surgeonfish, Bariene Tang, Eye-Spot Surgeonfish, Eye-Spot Tang, Black Spot Surgeonfish, Roundspot Tang, Pencilled Surgeonfish, and Ocean Surgeon, among others.
It features a gorgeous sleek purple/grey body with a characteristic black spot at the base of its tail. Its fins are orange and it has orange spots across its face. Its colors are more muted as a juvenile.
The Black Spot Tang will feed on an herbivorous diet consisting of algae and spirulina. It is peaceful and should not be kept with aggressive tank mates. They are best kept in tanks with plenty of algae and live rock.
