Banded Jawfish can grow up to 7 inches, and have bodies covered in brown and/or black bands. They have large eyes and mouths which they will open wide in an attempt to keep other fish away. The male Banded Jawfish will also use his mouth to hold brooding eggs until they hatch. Banded Jawfish are best kept in an aquarium with rock and 3-4 inches of substrate (sand, rubble, and small pieces of shells) for burrowing. Most gobies are known jumpers, and the Banded Jawfish is no exception. It is highly recommended to have a lid in place. More than one Banded Jawfish can be kept in one tank, given that they have enough space to establish their own territories. The recommended diet for the Banded Jawfish is meaty foods such as frozen brine and mysis shrimp.
