This Asfur Angelfish is an inhabitant of the Red Sea, and with its stunning color combination, it makes a most splendid fish in any tank. The Asfur Angelfish is commonly referred to as the Arabian, or crescent angelfish. It is necessary to add plenty of caves, crevices or rocky places in the tank so that it feels comfortable and gets acclimatized easily. The Asfur Angelfish thrives well in a temperature range of 78-84 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.1-8.4. The Asfur Angelfish features streak of yellow or gold extending from the mid of the side, and makes it a captivating fish. The juvenile stage is similar to that of Pomocanthus maculosus, however, the tail of the Asfur is yellow instead of white like in P. maculosus. The Asfur Angelfish grows up to 9 inches in captivity and should be kept in a tank not less than 120 gallons or larger tank with large amounts of live rocks. The Asfur Angelfish is shy in nature and can be tamed or stressed easily, that is why it needs rocks and other caves to take refuge when required. It is best to feed the Asfur Angelfish high quality frozen foods such as foods with sponge or fish. The Asfur Angelfish requires a diet of vegetables, meats, and high quality angelfish preparations containing spongiform products. Additional supplement of vitamin rich additive such as Marine Vita-Pep or Coral Reef and Marine Fish Vitamins with other foods periodically has proved to be beneficial for its continued good health. It has penchant for stoney and soft corals, and clam mantles, but may be kept with small polyped stony corals and somewhat noxious soft corals. If you keep more than one angelfish in the tank, the Asfur Angelfish may become aggressive towards its own species, so it is best to keep it singly or in true mated pairs. The Asfur Angelfish is hermaphrodite so breeding it in captivity is difficult, since this fish is indistinguishable from male to female.
