The Super Red Long Fin Bushy Nose Plecostomus packs a remarkable amount of character into a four-inch body. That deep crimson coloration intensifies with maturity, and the flowing, veil-like pectoral and caudal fins catch the current as the fish moves, giving it a grace that standard bristlenose variants simply don't have. Up close, the whisker-like bushy barbels on the snout are constantly twitching and probing every surface, sensory organs inherited from ancestors that navigated murky South American riverbeds by feel as much as by sight. It's a fish you find yourself watching even when you didn't plan to.
This is a crepuscular species, most active during the low-light hours of dawn and dusk. When the lights dim, you'll see it methodically working across driftwood, slate, and glass, rasping away at biofilm and algae with that specialized sucker mouth. During brighter daytime hours it tends to claim a cave or tuck itself beneath a piece of wood, which means a few pieces of smooth driftwood and a cave or two aren't optional extras but genuinely used retreats. At a maximum adult size of four inches, it fits comfortably in a ten-gallon tank without ever outgrowing a modest setup the way common plecos notoriously do.
Compatibility is one of this fish's strongest selling points. Unlike larger pleco species that become increasingly territorial with age, the Super Red Long Fin remains peaceable throughout its life. It ignores mid-water community fish entirely and leaves aquatic plants, including delicate varieties, completely undisturbed. The one thing to watch is pairing two males in a small tank, as bushy nose plecos will defend a favored cave from rivals of the same species. A single specimen, or a male-female pair with adequate hiding spots, integrates into almost any peaceful community without friction.
Diet variety keeps this fish in its best color and condition. A core of quality sinking wafers, supplemented with blanched zucchini, cucumber, or spinach, covers its nutritional bases. Occasional protein in the form of a sinking carnivore pellet or bloodworm rounds things out. With a lifespan that can reach twelve years, this isn't a throwaway cleanup fish. It's a long-term resident with genuine personality, and the long-fin form makes it one of the more visually distinctive plecos you can keep at this size.
