The Red Spot Glass Cardinal, Apogon parvulus, has a distinctive large red spot on just before the caudal fin. They hardy and a great choice for a beginner. Since they are very peaceful and social fish, they are best kept in a peaceful reef tank and can even be kept in schools if the tank is large enough.

Cardinals are reef safe and will not bother any corals or inverts present in the tank. Though they are slower swimmers which makes them slower eaters as well. Diet should include a variety of live or frozen mysis or vitamin enriched brine shrimp, 2-3 times daily.

Took a different approach with this cardinal. Had bangais and pajamas. The cardinal family didn’t disappoint. The red spot glass cardinal is no exception to the nice community fish. I was worried that he would get picked on because he was a little smaller than all other inhabitants but nope, all fish in the tank get along with him. Make sure you add this cardinal to your family of cardinals if you haven’t already.
