Synalpheus sp., a small snapping shrimp also known as pistol shrimp. With its unique hunting behavior, Synalpheus sp. is a fascinating addition to any tank. At around 2 cm in size, these shrimp are known for their distinctive large claw, which they use to create a high-pressure bubble that collapses, producing an astonishingly loud sonic blast of up to 210 decibels. This sound can stun small fish, making Synalpheus sp. a semi-aggressive carnivorous species that adds excitement to your tank. It is reef safe with caution and usually tends to pair with small goby species such as watchman gobies or white cap gobies. They are omnivores and usually accept most foods as they are scavengers. A minimum tank size for them would be 10 gallons and a decent sand bed is recommended as they do like to burrow under rocks.
