Orange Banded Prawn Goby - Indian Ocean Care Facts

Care Level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Diet: Carnivore
Reef Safe: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
Max Size: 5 inches
The Orange Banded Prawn Goby, Amblyeleotris aurora, is one of the few gobies that will form a symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp, featuring an orange and white vertical striping pattern. They are very hardy and peaceful and can be housed with other peaceful fish in a reef tank setting, but may become territorial towards other blennies, gobies or dartfish in smaller tanks.

Gobies tend to stay mainly towards the bottom of the tank, burrowing and sifting through the sand. However, this goby is also a known jumper, so a tightly fitting lid is suggested. Diet should include a variety of frozen or live mysis shrimp and vitamin enriched brine shrimp 1-2 times daily.

I put this guy in a 5 gallon bucket with a pistol shrimp for about 30 minutes but they immediately clung to each other when I put them in. Just like it said in the description. Within hours they were both setting up shop under the largest rock in the tank, pistol Pete Shrimpovich doing most of the dirty work by building impressive cave entrances out of mountains of sand. The whole family is fascinated and loves it.
