The Monkey Shrimp, Saron marmoratus, also known as the Saron Shrimp, Common Marble Shrimp, Long Arms Marble Shrimp, and Buffalo Shrimp, has a brown body with green spots and varied white speckling. Sometimes at night, its body can appear as a deep red color. It is a nocturnal shrimp that prefers areas of complete darkness so it is best housed in a tank with plenty of live rock hiding places. It eats a carnivorous diet consisting of brine and mysis shrimp, flake food, and other frozen meaty preparations. It is peaceful, non-aggressive, easy to care for, and reef safe making it an excellent choice for most home aquariums. Males and females vary in appearance, with males having feathery cirri appendages.
