The Long Fin Green Dragon Bushy Nose Plecostomus is a small but genuinely impressive catfish from South American river systems, where it spends its days wedged into rocky crevices and driftwood, emerging after dark to explore and forage. What sets this variant apart is its elaborate, feathery nasal appendages, the distinctive "bushes" that are as functional as they are visually striking. These sensory organs help the fish locate food and navigate murky water. On males, the long, flowing fins create an almost graceful silhouette as they drift through the tank, a remarkable contrast to their sturdy, armored bodies covered in interlocking bony plates.

In the aquarium, this pleco settles into a satisfying daily rhythm. It methodically grazes on biofilm, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables, making it especially valuable in planted tanks where its compact, four-inch adult size means it won't bulldoze carefully arranged greenery the way larger pleco species do. It occupies the lower and mid-bottom levels of the tank, generally ignoring everyone else while patrolling its chosen surfaces. Males can be territorial with one another, so if you want to keep more than one, provide enough caves and driftwood to give each fish its own corner.

Driftwood deserves a special mention here. It is not just a decorative prop for this species. Grazing on wood contributes to the fish's digestive health, and rough wooden surfaces are preferred resting and hiding spots. A cave or two, some smooth stones, and a piece or two of driftwood will keep this pleco occupied and confident. With a lifespan reaching up to 12 years under good conditions, this is a fish that becomes a long-term fixture, one that quietly earns its place while developing recognizable routines and, over time, a personality all its own.
