The Scorpion Fish, Scorpaena brasiliensis., often pack a bit of a punch with their stinging mechanism. Containing many poisonous spines, Scorpion Fish are bottom dwellers that feed on small crustaceans while sometimes relying on camouflage to ambush their prey. They have a mottled red or brown body with white tips on their dorsal spines. While Scorpion Fish can indeed be venomous, many species are suitable for the home aquarium. Aquarists should take precautions while transporting to be sure not to touch the spines. They also should be housed with larger tank mates that they are unlikely to bully around.
