Considered one of the more uncommon tyoes of Urchin, The Heart Urchin "Anametlia sp."  is arguably the most unique among all other urchins. This Urchin has drawn its name due to its heart or oval shaped body giving it it's name. They have very short spines that lay in a pattern that allows them to burrow under the sand unlike other urchins. These Urchins should be housed in a tank that features a deep sand bed for burrowing. Provide them with particle foods such as reef snow and coral foods as they filter feed unlike most urchins. These urchins in particular lack the strong teeth and muscles most urchins have therefore they are not good algae grazers. It should not be housed with tank mates like triggerfish and puffer fish as they have a tendency to eat Urchins.
