Considered as a jewel of the sea, The Blue Spot Star Urchin is arguably the most beautiful among all other urchins. Also called the fire urchin, and Rianbow Urchin this Urchin has drawn its name due to its blazing ember appearance that gives an illusion of radiating heat. One should be cautious while handling this Urchin as the spines it carries on its body are venomous. These Urchins should be housed in a fish-only tank that features lots of rocks, especially live rocks covered with algae, as they love to graze over the algae that get accumulated on the surface of these rocks. Provide them with adequate dried seaweed in case of low algae formation in the tank. These Urchins are a ravenous predator and generally feeds upon its fellow invertebrates, corals, etc, so it is not at all a reef safe. It should not be housed with tank mates like triggerfish and puffer fish as they have a tendency to eat Urchins.
