Also called the Bluefin Damsel, Royal Damsel, and Bowtie Damselfish, the Black Damselfish is a wonderful addition to a tank. The scientific name of the fish is Neoglyphidodon Melas. The Black Damselfish in a juvenile stage looks quite attractive along with a gray body, accentuated by blue pectoral fins and vibrant yellow dorsally. As the Black Damselfish matures in age, it turns uniformly black. The juvenile in an aquarium remains generally peaceful, but turns aggressive with age. Observed as solitary species, the Black Damselfish Juvenile should be housed one per tank. This fish is considered quite hardy and an exemplary option for the purpose of "cycling" a tank. The Black Damselfish can be considered a threat to nip at shrimp and soft corals. You can feed the fish with most food comprising frozen and flaked preparations. The Black Damselfish Juvenile also accepts frozen and fresh meaty and algae foods such as planktons, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, scallop and other similar things. The maximum size that the Black Damselfish Juvenile grows up to is 6 inches, therefore it must be housed in a tank of 55 or more gallons of space. It is easy to care for the Black Damselfish Juvenile, so it also makes a first choice for beginner aquarists. The tank should be decorated with coral, plants, and rocks that give it plenty of space to hide. The Black Damselfish Juvenile may nip over some reef inhabitants, therefore one should be vigilant towards it. It may be reef compatible, but with caution.
