# Yellow Spotted Para Plecostomus (L-075) The Yellow Spotted Para Plecostomus is a nocturnal wood-grazer that transforms your aquarium into an ecosystem with genuine activity. Hailing from the fast-moving rivers of South America, particularly the Rio Xingu basin, this plecostomus has evolved to cling to submerged driftwood and rocky surfaces where it spends daylight hours hidden. Come evening, it emerges to methodically browse the tank, rasping away algae and biofilm with its specialized sucker mouth. Unlike some plecostomus species that grow massive and aggressive with age, the L-075 remains manageable at around 6 inches and maintains a genuinely peaceful disposition throughout its life. Watching this fish work is oddly satisfying?there's something meditative about observing its purposeful grazing patterns and the way it explores every crevice of the aquascape. Creating the right environment means prioritizing what this species actually needs: extensive driftwood, not just decoration. Multiple pieces stacked and arranged give the fish essential surfaces to graze on and secure hiding spots during the day. Live plants like Anubias and Java Fern are compatible and add to the naturalistic feel, though no plant is safe from grazing if the fish gets hungry. A well-established tank matters here?the L-075 benefits from mature substrate and wood surfaces that support algae and microbial growth, its primary food source. Supplement this with quality sinking pellets and occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini. Water current should be moderate, mimicking its riverine origins, though it's surprisingly adaptable to standard aquarium conditions. A 30-gallon tank is the realistic minimum; larger is always better for maintaining water quality and providing space for its nightly wanderings. Tank mates are straightforward with this species. The L-075 coexists peacefully with tetras, rasboras, corydoras catfish, and other community fish. It ignores fish entirely and focuses on the substrate and wood. The main consideration is avoiding aggressive plecos or territorial cichlids that might compete for space. With proper care and stable water conditions, this fish routinely reaches 12-15 years, making it a long-term tank inhabitant that rewards observation and patience.
