The Pillow Cushion Starfish is a large pentagonal sea star with its burgundy red colored dorsal side, and pink papillae covered triangular area. With its beautiful soft colored body, it surely captivates any onlooker. The Pillow Cushion Starfish is shaped like a cushion and has very short arms, which gives it an appearance of small cushioned pillow. It might topple the corals present in the tank, and can also disturb other sessile invertebrates, which does not make it a reef compatible species. The Pillow Cushion Starfish should be fed with chopped clams at least once a week for its sustainability and strong immunity to disease. It is very sensitive to water changing parameters and copper-medications as well, therefore make sure not to change oxygen levels, salinity and pH of the water aggressively. The Pillow Cushion Starfish needs the saltwaterfish.com drip acclimation method due to its intolerability to changes in water chemistry. Also, it should not be exposed to the air while handling. The Pillow Cushion Starfish grows up to 3-4 inches in captivity and is easy to care for once acclimated. It bothers sessile invertebrates such as clams and mollusks and other coral tissues, therefore it is not considered a reef safe organism. The Pillow Cushion Starfish feeds on algae, micro fauna and should be provided with many live rocks that can encourage the growth of algae on it.
