The Princess Parrotfish is commonly referred as to Sammy Johnson, Snotty Parrot, Loro princesa, Loro angaro, Loro listado, or Perroquet Princesse. It owes its name because of the shape of its mouth. Instead of teeth, the Princess Parrotfish has two beak-like plates, like parrots. It has even rows of large, noticeable scales on its body, and with its beautiful shades it makes a captivating addition to any tank. The Princess Parrotfish uses its beak to scrape algae and polyps from corals and rocks. It grows up to 14 inches in the wild and needs a larger aquarium to thrive. We recommend you to provide the Princess Parrotfish with ample live rocks that encourages the growth of live algae on it, so that it can feed in between its meal. Although it is peaceful species, its care level is quite difficult to achieve in captivity. The Princess Parrotfish constantly grazes for food. The Princess Parrotfish is omnivorous in its feeding habit, and its diet should be supplemented with herbivore preparations like algae, planktons, etc and meaty foods as well. Since it may nip over the hard corals, it is not considered a reef species. When the parrotfish eats the living coral, it is not actually eating the coral itself. Instead it is processing and utilizing the zooxanthellae in the tissue of the coral as food energy. Since the Princess Parrotfish is relatively large in size, it must be kept in a tank not less than 100 gallon.
