The Hawaiian Hogfish, Bodianus bilunulatus, also known as the Saddleback Hogfish, is a member of the wrasse family. They have a beautiful silver body with red horizontal striping across with a large black vertical band towards their rear. They sometimes have bright yellow finnage. As they mature, their yellow accents recede away from the face towards the rear as the black band recedes. This is a semi-aggressive fish that needs at least 150 gallons as an adult to thrive. The Hawaiian Hogfish is a rooter meaning they will sometimes burrow beneath the sand when frightened. The Hawaiian Hogfish should not be housed with smaller fish or small sessile invertebrates.
