The Christmas Tree Coral is also referred to as the Medusa, or Snake Locks Coral. The Christmas Tree Coral mostly hold its grip over the soft sand or rubble bottom in the tank, thus make sure to introduce plenty of live rocks and rubles in the tank. The Christmas Tree Coral needs moderate water movement in the tank so that its foot can anchor to its position. Sometimes, the Christmas Tree Coral retracts completely into a potato-shaped stump, or expands into an attractive tree-like form to feed. Since the Christmas Tree Coral is non-photosynthetic, it relies completely on capturing preys, and other supplemental foods. The Christmas Tree Coral is difficult to care for, thus should only be recommended to an expert aquarist. The Christmas Tree Coral should be provided with plenty of open space without coming into contact with other coral, else it may destroy its delicate branches. The Christmas Tree Coral requires low to moderate light levels and moderate to high water movement for its continued good health. The Christmas Tree Coral is necessary to provide regular target feeding with phytoplankton, rotifers, Cyclop-eeze and freshly hatched brine shrimp.
