Bubble Coral, Plerogyra sinuosa, is a unique type of coral that is an attention-grabber in any tank. The bubble-like appendages are actually specialized tentacles that regulate the amount of light which the algae living inside the coral receives. The bubbles further have stinging sweeper tentacles so care should be had while handling and they should not be placed near other corals. Though sometimes aggressive, Bubble Coral is hardy if kept in a tank with moderate light.

Bubble Coral can asexually reproduce in the home aquarium. Growths will develop their own skeletons and naturally frag off of the main coral. They will readily accept supplemental carnivorous feedings of finely chopped fish or shrimp once a week. Lastly, if the Bubble Coral is attacked by any organisms be sure to attend to it quickly as it can cause an infection in the tank that can harm other corals.
