Reef Safe: No
Minimum Tank Size: 150 Gallons
Max Size: 12 inches
The Blue/Green Birdmouth wrasse, Gomphosus caeruleus, is a unique and fascinating species of wrasse can reach up to 12 inches in length and boasts a distinctive 'beak-like' snout. Males of the species are dark blue overall, with a light blue edge running along their pectoral fins and lime green dorsal and anal fins. Females have a dark strip through the eye and yellow anal and caudal fins, and juveniles are pale with a dusky streak from their snout through the eye and onto the body. They require a minimum tank size of 150 gallons but bigger is always better. As a popular aquarium fish, it's important to understand the care and maintenance requirements of Gomphosus caeruleus to ensure the fish's health and well-being. This species is known to eat crustaceans, shrimp, krill, and frozen thawed pieces of fish and squid. They are not reef safe as they can overturn corals looking for food and harm invertebrates in the tank. Being active swimmers it is best to give them lots of space to swim and lots of rock work to hide in and feel comfortable in the tank. Do not house them with smaller species of wrasse as they may become aggressive and territorial with them. They do well one their own or in a male female pair.
