The Tuamotu Hawkfish, Paracirrhites nisus, also known as the Nisus Hawkfish, is an ultra rare species of hawkfish originally found only off the shores of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. This species has since been discovered elsewhere in the Pacific, including Hawaii. The Tuamotu Hawkfish is has a lustrous golden body with a lined mask like banding over its eyes. Its tail is dark fading to red with a thick cream-colored horizontal line. There is really nothing like the Tuamotu Hawkfish on the aquarium market today.
The Tuamotu Hawkfish eats a carnivorous diet consisting mainly of frozen brine and mysis shrimp and should be housed in a tank of at least 150 gallons. They are reef safe but may nip on small inverts. Overall, this is an excellent fish for beginners and experts alike as it is beautiful beyond comparison, hardy, easy to keep, and friendly.
