The Starry Blenny, Salarias ramosus, is also commonly referred as the Starry Lawnmower Blenny. It features dark brown base color with multiple white to light blue dots over its entire body, which makes it a wonderful addition to any reef tank. The Starry Blenny has a distinctive characteristic of whisker-like appendages that protrude from between their eyes, and is equipped with combed teeth for algae grazing. The Starry Blenny also loves to perch on rocks and corals, which provides them ample space to swim and hide. Therefore, we advise you to add many live rocks that encourage the growth of algae over it. The Starry Blenny can grow to be up to 5.5 inches, and should be kept in a tank no less than 30 gallon for it to thrive. Although it is known to be territorial, it is largely considered as peaceful bottom dwellers, and should be kept with other peaceful tank mates. But may become aggressive towards other Blennies, or fish that have a similar shape.  It is a reef-safe species, but is known to nip at the mantles of clams and LPS corals if not properly fed. The Starry Blenny is mainly an herbivore and grazes on various marine algae within its natural environment. If there is not enough algae in the tank, their diet can be supplemented  with a variety of vitamin-enriched marine algae, vegetable matter and quality spirulina - based foods.  They will thrive in a temperature range of 72-78??F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
