The Solar Eclipse Polyp, Palythoa sp., is a beautiful patterned zoanthid polyp resembling a solar eclipse. The polyp is reddish brown with a lighter central pattern. Like many other zoanthids, the Solar Eclipse Polyp grows individually but comes together to form colonies. They are best kept in tanks with moderate lighting, moderate waterflow, and placed in the bottom to middle of the tank and away from other corals. They are filter feeders but will readily take direct feedings of brine or mysis shrimp 2-3 times a week. Solar Eclipse Polyps are easy to care for and can spread rapidly under good conditions.
