The Samurai Squirrelfish, Sargocentron ittodai, makes unique loud clicking sounds and are sensitive to sounds like tapping on the glass of aquariums due to its large air bladders. They have a reddish white body with long vertical stripes and large eyes. It is a peaceful species that makes a great community fish. The Samurai Squirrelfish thrives best in tanks with plenty of live rock hiding places, and kept in small groups. They are fast growers that will need a bigger aquarium of at least 70 gallons. The Samurai Squirrelfish is vulnerable to predation of larger fish, so they should not be housed with aggressive tank mates. They also should not be handled in nets as their spines and gills are easily caught in nets. Overall, they are a unique fish that goes great with most home aquarium set ups.
