The Pimpled Mushroom, Discosoma sp., also known as Spotted Mushrooms, come in many different shapes, sizes, textures, colors, and patterns. This wild variability makes for interesting combinations in your home aquarium. Further, because of such variability, and similarities with other species of mushroom corals, the taxonomy is quite fluid and ever-changing.
This particular specimen of Pimpled Mushroom is denoted as "Super" meaning it has the most visually stunning patterns, colors, textures, and shapes in our stock.
The Pimpled Mushroom is quite hardy in the home aquarium making it an excellent candidate for most reef tanks and a great starting place for beginner aquarists and experts alike. Interestingly, the Pimpled Mushroom has the ability to grow and colonize very quickly so it is important to understand this before placement. Additionally during placement, it is important to leave adequate room between the Pimpled Mushroom and other corals and sessile inverts. Tanks housing the Pimpled Mushroom should have moderate lighting and moderate waterflow. The mushroom will feed photosynthetically as well as take nutrients straight from the tank.
