The Pencil Wrasse is more commonly referred as the Small Tail Pencil Wrasse or Smalltail Wrasse. The Pencil Wrasse has a stunning coloration that can enhance the beauty of any home aquarium. The Pencil Wrasse possesses a semi-aggressive nature, so should not be housed with peaceful fishes. The Pencil Wrasse might attack shrimps, snails and other fish of same species. The Pencil Wrasse can be kept either in fish only tank or with other species. The Pencil Wrasse reaches up to a mature size of 5 inches, hence, a tank of approximately 50 gallons will do. House the Pencil Wrasse with the normal water conditions comprising of pH 8.1 - 8.4, temperature : 75F - 79F (24C - 26C) and specific gravity : 1.023 - 1.025. It is not easy to feed the Pencil Wrasse, there is need of expert level care. This is the tough part about keeping Pencil Wrasse, that doesn't make it a good choice for a beginner aquarist. The Pencil Wrasse often buries itself for hiding and sleeping in, we recommend you to maintain a thick sand bed in its aquarium along with plenty or rocks and corals. Make sure you are offering foodstuff multiple times per day i.e. 2 to 3 small feedings at least. If your Pencil Wrasse eats after acclimation then preferably, 1 to 2 feedings per day would be adequate. You can feed it with brine shrimp, mysis shrimp and the frozen meaty preparations.
