The Ignitus Anthias, Pseudanthias ignitus, or Flame Anthias, is a vibrant fish from the Maldives that adds an injection of color to any tank. Anthias are hermaphroditic meaning that their gender is fluid. Males dominant social hierarchies, but when a dominant male dies, the next largest female morphs into a male and assumes the position of power. Anthias often are best kept as harems - a large number of females with only one male. The Ignitus male often shows an passionate red color when engaged in mating rituals with the females. These fish are best kept in tanks of at least 120 gallons for a harem, or 70 gallons for an individual. They feed on frozen brine or mysis shrimp, as well as flake food.
