The Halstead's Wrasse (Xyrichthys halsteadi), also known as the Razor Wrasse, is a relatively new fish to the marine life trade; with little being known about their natural habits. They can be found among the Eastern and Central Pacific Ocean, inhabiting seaward reefs and sandy lagoons. The males have a pastel blue or yellow body with purple fins and a black spot behind their gills; females and juveniles are typically solid white with a red stripe along their dorsal section. They are carnivorous by nature, feeding on a variety of invertebrates, including mysis, krill, copepods and worms; due to this, it is not recommended to keep the Halstead's Wrasse with prized crustaceans. They reach a maximum size of 5 inches and should be kept with fish of similar size and temperament. Their aquarium should include plentiful live rock, as well as a thick sand bed, as they bury themselves at twilight to hide from predators.
