The Goniopora Coral, Goniopora sp., is also known as the Flower Pot Coral, Ball Coral, Daisy Coral, and Sunflower Coral. It is an LPS (could also be SPS) species that has a number of small, flower-like polyps protruding from a round hard-coral base. They come in many different colors - this particular specimen is of the metallic variety. Its flower-like polyps have the ability to sting, so ample space should be kept between the Goniopora Coral and its neighbors. Often, the Goniopora Coral gets defamed for being difficult to keep and finicky with water specifications, but if you keep it in moderate lighting, moderate waterflow, and healthy water that is continually changed, it will thrive. The Goniopora Coral will benefit from supplementary feedings of small meaty aquarium foods. Interestingly, if no anemone is found in the tank, clownfish have been known to pair with the Goniopora Coral.
