The Electric Eye Scallop, Lima sp., also known as the Red Electric Flame Scallop, really lives up to its name. Its blinding red mantel and red tentacles contrast beautifully with its tan/white shell. In a tank with some water movement, its appendages sway resembling striking lighting bolts. They are best kept in well-established reef tanks with plenty of live rock as they will construct nests using stray rubble.
A filter feeder, the Electric Eye Scallop, must be fed supplemental portions of phytoplankton either using a pipette or straw to ensure feeding.
