The Domino Damsel, Dascyllus trimaculatus, also known as the Three Spot Dascyllus, is characterized by the presence of three white spots imposed on a jet black body. Though the Domino Damsel is very hardy and can tolerate extreme tank conditions, they can sometimes be territorial in nature so it is advised to keep them singly, not in pairs, and introduce it to your tank last. However, they are completely reef safe and will not mess with any corals or inverts. Their omnivorous diet consists of various meaty foods, algae, and prepared flake and pellet foods. The Domino Damsel does best in a tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. They also should not be kept large species of damselfish or other large predatory fish. Overall, the Domino Damsel is an attractive damselfish that does well in smaller tanks, or can be a uniquely beneficial fish when transitioning a tank as they can survive extreme conditions.
